The town of Bansko is situated at the northeastern foot of Pirin Mountain beneath the highest and the most beautiful Karst part of the mountain near by Mesta River. It is at a distance of 160 kilometers south of Sofia. The town is situated at 925 meters above the sea level and is one of the most famous Bulgarian winter resorts. It is an administrative center with ancient history. The place where now is located Bansko was inhabited by Thracians, Romans, Byzantines and Slavs. The town has preserved the enchantment of the Revival period, when it reached its highest economic development. Its preserved rich cultural-historical heritage, Bulgarian crafts and folklore, great number of traditional taverns, hotels, and original cuisine, combined with the marvelous nature of Pirin Mountain has turned Bansko in a unique tourist center. Град Банско се намира в североизточното подножие на Пирин, под най-високата и красива карстова част на планината, в близост до река Места. Отстои на 160 км южно от София.
